Six Steps To Wellness

Dr. George Goodheart developed the concept of the ‘triad of health’, which focuses on three key areas: structure (spinal alignment and muscle balance and integration), nutritional (food, toxic environment, metabolism) and energetic (mental, emotional/psychological, spiritual). More recently, the ‘Six Step Protocol’ was developed by Dr. John Brimall to encompass Dr Goodheart’s ideas by covering the six aspects of health that have been found in all natural healing disciplines and which are necessary for complete healing and wellness.

Step 1: Remove Nerve Interference & Correct Structural Problems

This first step is one of the most important in the ten steps to wellness. It includes spinal and extremity adjustments, cranio-sacral therapy, myofascial release and visceral manipulation. Spinal and extremity adjustments remove nerve interference by allowing for realignment of the spine. Cranio-sacral therapy involves normalizing the movement of the 24 bones and Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) of the skull and spinal cord. The brain acts as the body’s computer and, along with the spinal cord, controls all bodily functions. The nerves and spinal cord are analogous to a phone line and if there is any interference to any of these ‘lines’, information may be lost ,as it will not be effectively transmitted and received between the brain and body parts. This ‘interference’ is a significant cause of decreased function in the body. Specifically, if the fascia, which is the thin cellophane-like layer that covers all muscles and organs and is contiguous with the dura, which covers the brain and spinal cord, becomes stuck or contracted, it reduces the flow of blood, lymph fluid, and nerve impulses. It is therefore vital to release the cranium and fascia and mobilize the organs for optimal health.

      Step 2: Rebalance Electromagnetics

This very simple, but important step, requires muscle response testing to determine if electromagnetic fields make the patient’s body weak. Electromagnetic fields are emanated by almost all electronic devices and research has implicated these electromagnetic fields in many of the chronic health conditions seen in our modern world. An inexpensive multi-polar is conducted to balance the body’s own field and to protect it from electromagnetic fields encountered in our environment.

      Step 3: Rebalance Nutrition

      A. Reset the adrenal glands and the General Adaptive Syndrome – The adrenal glands, which produce adrenaline and cortisol, support and control many of the body’s functions. Chronic stress (physical, chemical or emotional) has been found to cause the adrenal glands to enlarge, the thymus gland and lymph nodes to shrink and to lead to gastrointestinal irritation and ulceration. This is known as the General Adaptative Syndrome. The adrenal glands ‘drive’ many of the body’s key functions and so restoration is essential. Testing of adrenal glands is performed via either muscle response testing or lab testing.
      B. Repair nutrition for organ or system weakness – The heart, liver, lungs, small and large intestine and stomach can all suffer from types of dysfunction or weakness leading to a number of problems and symptoms. Testing using either muscle response testing or lab studies gives us an idea where the weaknesses are and nutritional supplements, such as Nutri-West, can be used to strengthen the organ weaknesses. These supplements contain specific minerals, herbs, glandular extracts, and natural substances in synergistic formulas that are specialized for each individual organ dysfunction.
      C. Remove Infective organisms – Many chronic health problems are associated with the body’s inability to either remove infective organisms or their overgrowth. Viruses, bacteria, yeast, and parasites can all linger in the body, affecting many different systems. Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Fibromyalgia, arthritis, auto-immune diseases and cancer are examples of conditions associated with infective organisms in the body. Lab studies or muscle response testing can reveal what infective organisms are in your system. Several herb and natural substances are available which have been found to eradicate the infective organisms.
      D. Replace enzymes and/or HCLDigestive enzymes – These are produced by the body and are essential for proper digestion. Enzymes also catalyze (enable or promote) all chemical reactions in the body. Our modern diet can cause deficiencies in enzymes and is one of the main reasons why many people have digestive disorders today. This deficiency causes the body’s chemical reactions to slow down and as a consequence people feel sluggish. Natural plant enzymes are recommended to help correct this. Furthermore, lab and muscle responses testing can determine if you are producing sufficient Hydrochloric acid which is produced by the stomach lining and is necessary for proper digestion.
      E. Re-inoculate the bowel flora – The large and small intestine normally harbor millions of ‘good’ bacteria which help fight invading organisms detrimental to the body. These ‘good’ bacteria also aid the digestive process and protect the lining of the intestines and they produce some essential substances such as certain vitamins. Many digestive and other conditions are caused when the ratio of bad to good bacteria gets too high. Probiotics, contain 400 different strains of good bacteria, are prescribed to counteract this imbalance.

Step 4: Remove Abnormal Emotional Patterns

Most people know that the mind/body connection is very strong and powerful and so every health problem has an emotional component. Often, it isn’t obvious that there is an emotional aspect to a particular health problem, but nevertheless it is there. The brain and mind are integrated with all chemical and physical processes in the body. Emotional stress is stored in the nervous system, muscles and fascia and it is essential to unlock stored and emotional stress to achieve good health. Muscle testing can determine if a particular traumatic event, emotion, or compulsive thought process is making the body weak or disrupting energy. In contrast, applied Neuro-Biology uses eye movements to unlock the neurological connections, while Thought Field Therapy involves stimulating acupuncture points and eye movements to normalize energetic patterns associated with undesired emotions, especially phobias, post traumatic stress, and negative urges. Neuro-Emotional Technique is another acupuncture (energetic based) technique that is especially useful for discovering the underlying emotional stress associated with a particular physical problem. Again, stimulation of acupuncture points is used to correct the abnormal energetic pattern. Finally, because emotions and stress patterns are associated with colors and emotions, sound and color therapy can be used in conjunction with the treatment process.

Step 5: Reprogram The Body For Allergies & Sensitivities

Many chronic health problems are associated with sensitivities or allergies (such as food allergies including peanut and wheat allergy and allergies to plants including cedar allergy). Most people are unaware that they are allergic or sensitive to something as the reactions people have to different substances come in many forms. Allergy symptoms run from the most common runny nose and itchy eyes to headaches, fatigue and ‘brain fog’. Irritable Bowel Syndrome and Dermatitis can also be associated with allergies. In fact, people can even be sensitive to their own tissues, which means that the body does not recognize part of their body properly, leading to a potential breakdown of the system.

Step 6: Remove Heavy Metals & Other Toxins From The Body

Heavy metal toxicity (from lead, mercury, barium, arsenic, etc.) is becoming more recognized by the general public and with good reason. Unfortunately, our modern, industrialized society has polluted almost everywhere in our environment. Heavy metals have been implicated in Alzheimer’s disease, dementia, autism, anemia, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Fibromyalgia, arthritis, hypoglycemia, ADHD, ADD, allergies, hormonal imbalances, and many more as heavy metal accumulation affects many systems of the body. Removal is essential. Muscle response testing and/or lab testing is used to highlight such accumulation. Homeopathic tinctures are also used to stimulate a release of the metals and essential fatty acids (ex. Flax seed oil) are used to carry it out of the body safely.
